The Catahoula Cur is a breed of dogs named after Catahoula Parish, Louisiana. The curious 'cur' was officially replaced with, Leopard Dog, referring to it's spots, after then Louisiana Governor, Edwin Edwards signed a bill into law in 1979 making the Catahoula Leopard Dog our state dog. While several theories have been posited as to the dog's origins, as one might imagine the desire to take credit for those hauntingly mesmerizing  glass like eyes they possess. But suffice it to know that they are from Louisiana, and as such add another amazing layer to our rich heritage here, and we love them enough to make them our symbol!
